Frequently Asked Questions

What does Printonary sell?

Printonary creates made-to-order cosplay weapons, collector props and display pieces. The range focuses on clearly fictional weapon-shaped props and blades for costume or display use.

Where are the products made?

Physical products are 3D printed to order and prepared by Printonary in the United Kingdom. Fully finished versions are also assembled, surface-prepared and hand-painted by Printonary where required.

What is included with a DIY Kit?

A DIY Kit contains the printed parts for the selected product. Parts are supplied unpainted and may be unassembled. Cleaning, test fitting, gluing, filling, sanding, priming and painting may be required. Adhesive, filler, tools, paint and other finishing materials are not included unless the product page says otherwise.

What is included with Fully Finished & Painted?

This option is assembled where required, filled and surface-prepared where appropriate, sanded and hand-painted. It is supplied ready for cosplay or display. Hand finishing means small variations in colour, texture and weathering are normal.

Which finish should I choose?

Choose a DIY Kit if you want to prepare and finish the printed parts yourself, or Fully Finished & Painted where offered if you want that work completed by Printonary. Our DIY Kit and finished prop guide explains the work involved, what to budget for and how to plan around an event date.

Who creates the 3D models?

Printonary uses suitable models from independent creators and licensed model libraries. A small creator credit is included on the relevant product page. Printonary manufactures and finishes the physical item in the UK.

Are franchise-inspired products official merchandise?

No. Franchise-inspired items are unofficial fan-made pieces and are not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by the relevant rights holders. A commercial licence from a 3D model creator permits the physical model to be printed and sold, but does not make the finished item official franchise merchandise.

Are the props functional weapons?

No. Props are non-functional decorative costume or display pieces. They do not fire projectiles and do not contain a working weapon mechanism. Plastic blade and weapon-shaped props are not designed for striking, cutting, throwing or combat. They are not toys.

Can I take a prop to a convention or event?

Rules vary between venues and events. Check the organiser's current costume and prop policy before travelling. Entry with a prop is never guaranteed. Transport weapon-shaped props discreetly and securely, follow staff instructions and do not brandish, swing or point them at people.

Which materials are used?

Most current products are FDM 3D printed in PLA+. Any different material will be stated on the product page. Fine layer lines and small surface variations are normal characteristics of this printing process.

How long does production take?

DIY Kits are dispatched within 5 working days after the order is confirmed. Fully Finished & Painted pieces are dispatched within 10 working days after the order is confirmed. Working days are Monday to Friday, excluding UK bank holidays. A different time stated on an individual product page or agreed for a custom order will apply to that item. Delivery time begins after dispatch, and Express delivery does not shorten production time.

Will the finished item look exactly like the photographs?

Product photographs show the intended appearance. Because pieces are printed and finished individually, small differences in colour, texture, layer pattern and hand-painted weathering can occur. These variations do not normally affect the intended costume or display use.

How should I care for a prop?

Dust it with a soft cloth, keep it dry and protect it from strong heat, prolonged direct sunlight and hot vehicles. Do not use a dishwasher, boiling water, solvents or abrasive cleaners. Read the full product care guide.

Can I alter or repaint my product?

DIY Kits are intended for customer finishing. Changes to a fully finished product are made at your own risk and can affect its appearance or strength. Follow the instructions supplied with any adhesive, filler, primer or paint, and work in a suitable ventilated area.

Where does Printonary deliver?

Available delivery destinations, services and charges are shown at checkout for the address entered. Read the Shipping Policy for current processing and delivery information.

What if an item arrives damaged or incorrect?

Contact Printonary with your order number and details of the problem. Keep the packaging and include clear photographs where possible. Your rights and the return process are explained in the Refund Policy.

How do I request custom printing?

Read the Custom 3D Printing page, then contact us with the intended use, approximate dimensions, quantity and any model file or link you already have. Printonary can only accept projects that are suitable and that you have permission to reproduce.
